Faith Lee Gonzales | iTech/Immokalee Technical College | Practical Nursing (LPN)
How did you become interested in your current program or coursework?
While finishing my last year of high school I watched my mother leave the food industry, and obtain her GED & CNA license. Her actions plus my passion for helping people in need encouraged me to pursue a career as an LPN.
What do you like most about your program or coursework?
I like that we get hands-on experiences, doing what we love. Not just book work and papers, but actual time coming into contact with people that we will possibly be helping one day.
Why did you pick the center/college you’re attending?
Everything became possible for me to attend iTech, other programs or colleges were too pricey, or did not offer the program or didn’t line up with my work schedule. iTech was here in my home town, and was the most available for me.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
Upon graduating I plan on working for 6 months while preparing myself to enroll into a nearby college to obtain my RN certification. I do not plan on stopping here; I wish to continue my education in the nursing field.
What advice would you give someone thinking about a career in your field?
Make sure you have a passion for this field. Do not do this solely for the money. Be able to understand that nursing a person is more than giving drugs. It is assisting a person in all areas of life while they are in your care.
What does “Career in a Year” mean to you?
“Career in a Year” to me means getting your life started in a more helpful way. Sometimes going to college for years to get your AA or Bachelor’s degree is not for everyone. For me college was fun but there was no motivation, “Career in a year” gave me that motivation for my life to get started.
