Anthony Smith

Florida Panhandle Technical College | Drafting

How did you become interested in your current program or coursework?
I have always been interested in Architectural Drafting since I was a little kid so making the choice to join was easy. Shortly after joining the class I fell in love with the Mechanical Drafting side of drafting too.

What do you like most about your program or coursework?
I loved that the program was work at your own pace combined with the hands on help provided by my instructor. This really helped me understand what I was trying to accomplish.

Why did you pick the center/college you’re attending?
Florida Panhandle Technical Colleges is located close by and they provided transportation to and from school. After arriving on campus I saw firsthand how they took care of their facilities. After talking to the instructor I knew this was the best place for me.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
I graduated in May 2014 and the following week was already working at Eastern Shipbuilding Group as a Mechanical Drafter.

What advice would you give someone thinking about a career in your field?
Basically become a sponge, listen to your seniors and take in as much knowledge as you can. Be the very best that you can be so one day, when the next young drafter comes in you’ll be there to help guide them along, like someone has done for you.

What does “Career in a Year” mean to you?
To me it means that if you’re dedicated and relentlessly working hard on your future, whatever field that may be, there’s a great chance you will be rewarded with a great career for life.
